Each microbatch of organic Desert Rain lotion bars starts by drying healthy desert plants and slowly infusing the dried plant material in an organic carrier oil over a period of 4-6 weeks. Once the infusion process is complete, the infused oils are combined with other organic materials such as mango butter and coconut oil to create soothing, all-natural healing balms and lotion bars that smell just like desert we know and love. Each batch of lotion bars takes roughly 6 weeks from start to finish, so it's a true labor of love!

A little about the Desert Rain Scents:

CREOSOTE BUSH:

Creosote Bush (larrea tridentata, sometimes called greasewood) is a hardy, evergreen shrub found throughout the Mojave Desert as well as across the hot, arid climates of the American Southwest. The scent of this mighty plant (which can live to be over 10,000 years old!) is absolutely unmistakable. Most desert dwellers say it is the smell of desert rain, an earthy scent that reminds us of a magical time of growth and rejuvenation in a harsh arid climate. In the spring or after monsoonal summer rains, the tiny, aromatic leaflets turn a rich-green and burst into bright yellow blooms, a reminder of the change of seasons and the cycle of life.

CREOSOTE BUSH + LAVENDER:

With this scent, I start with the infused creosote bush oil described above, but add essence of lavender. This combo of earthy+sweet is incredibly distinct and is appealing to all palates, not just the desert lovers.

JUNIPER BERRY:

Juniper berries actually aren’t berries at all, they are the female seed cones that produce juniper plants. The juniper berry oil in the Desert Rain balms is a combination of these berries and plant dried matter after a slow infusion of 4-6 weeks. Juniper has a distinctive aroma that is "piney": woody, sweet, fresh and crisp. Some customers say it reminds them of winter holidays past, while gin-lovers collectively rejoice in this scent.
